Last year we went on holiday to Cuba. It was a somewhat impromptu trip but one of the best ideas we could ever have!! We LOVED it! Truly, 100% recommended!I could be for a whole month writting about the trip but today I want to tell you about a special and really good restaurant in Old Havana: La Imprenta (Calle Mercaderes 208) .
The truth is that we found a bit by chance. While we were wandering the streets full of colors and smells of Old Havana, suddenly, we noticed a lovely restaurant with an open courtyard wonderfully decorated with huge letters placed here and there. The menu, though it wasn’t very long, seemed tasty and very well priced. So we decided to stay. What a good idea! :)
Back home I realized that the restaurant is so named because it is on the ruins of what in the nineteenth century was the printing La Habanera. The truth is that they have done a beautiful reconstruction work and very well thought out, taking care of absolutely every detail and keeping the tribute to the former printing, even witth the tables and chairs in typography shapes.
La Imprenta has a special charm with these tropical plants in the central courtyard that gladden and refresh the environment at the same time, these beautiful cast iron columns, those kind waiters, these murals, those tables and chairs in the shape of letters,… All together turns eating at La Imprenta into a wonderful experience!
We ordered grilled lobster and it was really tasty! Note that in Cuba the lobsters are fairly easy to find and therefore there are many restaurants that offer them at a very affordable price (12.00 cuc in La Imprenta with starter included). But we didn’t find anywhere else we visited the quality and taste of this one!
As for the look, it is a tropical country so temperatures are always quite high and there is plenty of humidity in the ambience. It is also common that suddenly it starts to rain, even if it’s only for 15 minutes and then the sun shines again. And remember that you will be touring the city from top to bottom (which has cobblestone paved areas) so it is better to wear comfortable shoes (that will dry quickly in case it rains!) and light clothes. With this, I think of…
Vestido/dress: Asos; Collar y pulsera/ Necklace and bracelet: Blanco; Bolso/Bag: Pedro del Hierro; Sandalias/Sandals: Zara
The waiters are lovely and very friendly, the food is fantastic, the place is beautiful and the value is unbeatable. What else do you need to go try La Imprenta if you ever go to Havana?
